But, knowing how to better prepare yourself, you will begin to see how bad beats become a less important factor in your game and how overcoming the tilt or anger associated with a bad beat will improve your game dramatically.

Bad Beat Poker Stories

Every poker player has his own bad beat poker story to tell, however, the first step in overcoming the bad beats in poker is to stop telling the stories! We all get them, everyone is aware of them, now is the time to conquer the negativity surrounding bad beats in the game. Not every card is going to come on the river, and not every top pair is going to hold up, understand this crucial fact and you will begin to comprehend the variance in poker. For example, pocket aces will win about 85% of the time in a heads up situation, however, that percentage is reduced as more players go to the flop. In the case of pocket aces against 4 players you have a slightly better chance than 65% to win the hand on the flop.

Even worse, if you go to the river, you may only have a 35% chance to win the hand. This is why it is so crucial to understand that although most bad beats occur on the river, you want to play the hand with the hope of avoiding the river. Now in some cases, this is impossible, as players will tend to see additional cards to complete their drawing poker hand. If you truly want to avoid the bad beat poker situations you have been getting into, then you need to increase your aggression by the turn.

One of my favorite sayings in poker is "All the money is made on the turn". The reason is that players are more apt to fold on the flop and turn then they are to fold preflop, especially when they have a lucrative holding such as KQ suited or 10 J suited. Those hands want to see the flop and usually this creates the biggest poker bad beat scenario. Drawing hands are always dangerous to your made poker hands. If you want to beat poker and stop losing, then you want to become more aggressive by the turn. Doing so will reduce the number of bad beat stories you will tell.

So far we have learned that in order to win at poker and reduce the bad beats, you want to first accept the fact that bad beats will occur and that you must overcome the emotions of losing. Secondly become a little more aggressive with your made hands by the turn to eliminate potential draws. The final strategy in beating poker and minimizing bad beats is to consider the choice of folding when you could possibly lose the hand. It is far better to fold a hand even when you are ahead then to risk losing the tournament to a suckout. Players that get this concept are winning players!

Entering a hand with a weak hole card or a drawing hand usually results in a loss of chips either by missing your draw or by having to fold when your draw is strong. Therefore, folding a poker hand pre-flop that has less potential to complete a hand on the flop is usually a good idea. I realize that 2 suited cards preflop are attractive, however, consider that the percentage of making a flush by the river when you are holding suited hole cards is only 18%. Not a good percentage to call a raise or to enter a pot out of position.

The reality is that poker bad beats usually occur when a player does not select a good starting hand or when a strong starting hand is played improperly according to basic strategy. There are many ways to choose your starting hands that tend to hold up more often. Following basic poker rules and understanding your percentages is the first step. It's very easy to set goals for ourselves; to say we are going to lose weight, or to plan on starting a business. The hard part is putting our plans to action. I believe that the most common reason for that is because most people seek instant gratification. Many of us need to see results or rewards for our efforts quickly; otherwise we tend to lose interest. There are other reasons too of course, such as the three listed by Vic Johnson in his book titled "52 Mondays". Johnson says three common reasons people don't get started is: 1) They don't know how or where to start, 2) they think the work will be too difficult, or 3) they simply believe that they cannot do it.Here's the good news. There are things that you can do to overcome these obstacles and get motivated. For the instant gratification seeker, Johnson recommends getting yourself a 12 month paper calendar. The reason it should be paper is so you can hang it somewhere in plain sight. Then you will need to schedule a reasonable deadline in which you believe your goal(s) can be and should be achieved. Next, you will need to break the goal down into monthly or even weekly bench marks. For example, let's say your goal is to lose 100 pounds and you have allotted yourself a year for the accomplishment. You can break that goal into 52 weeks, which would then give you a bench mark goal of 2 pounds per week. If you meet your weekly goal, you should reward yourself with something small that you can enjoy. Brian Tracy, in his book "The Psychology of Achievement", gives a good example of short term rewarding. Let's say yours sitting at your desk staring at a blank screen or the telephone. You either need to write a letter or make some phone calls. In this situation you would buy yourself a good cup of coffee. For every line your write, or phone call you make, you'd allow yourself a sip of it. Small things like this do actually work because your subconscious mind begins to attach positive consequences for your efforts. In the long run, self-motivation will come naturally.Now let's move on to the next obstacle: You don't know how or where to start. Johnson says that the first phase of any goal should be "the research phase". Find a mentor, a forum, a group, or any form of local or online community that centers on the one thing you are trying to achieve. The best thing you can do is find someone who has already succeeded. You can study that person and discover what they had to go through and how they did it. Once you've done your research then you can move on to the second phase which is to map out a plan of action. I'll go over action planning in a different article.This brings us to the last two obstacles: "I can't do it" or "the workis too hard". This stems from a bad habit of negative thinking. It is our thoughts that generate feelings, and our feelings that generate actions, so ultimately it's our thought process that needs alteration. We can alter our thought process by telling ourselves that we are capable and that we can achieve anything we set our minds to. This is not an easy process, as we are creatures of habit and habits are hard to break! But Aristotle says we are what do on a repeated basis. So, just change what you tell yourself repeatedly and eventually everything else will follow. To help with this process, I highly suggest listening to positive affirmations twice a day- once in the morning before starting your day, and once again in the evening before you fall asleep. I am going to leave a link and the end of this article to a "positive affirmations" audio. Eventually, as good habits began replacing the old ones, you can cut down the affirmation sessions to just once in morning.Well there you have it! No more excuses! Just remember, the hardest part is to get the ball in motion. If you give yourself a hard enough push in the beginning, then you will get enough momentum to keep it rolling. Dale Carnegie is just one of many great writers who teaches that life is what we make of it. We are not products of our environment, in fact it is very much the contrary. In Carnegie's book, "How to Stop Worrying and Start Living" he tells us that if there is a circumstance that worries us we should do 3 things: First, ask ourselves "what is the worst that can possibly happen?". Then prepare ourselves to accept it. Lastly, he says we should proceed to improve on the worst case scenario.Worry can cause many negative symptoms such as fatigue. Why waste valuable time and mental energy on something that may or may not occur? Instead, we can chose to take that energy and use it productively on brainstorming one of two things: 1) Possible solutions to the problem or 2)What lessons to take and learn from the experience.Here is another huge treatment for worry: Faith. I have honestly noticed a huge difference within my social circle between those people who have faith in God and those who do not. People of faith are more joyful, they smile more, and they seem to age slower. I believe that much of this has to do with the fact that people of faith turn their worries over to God and trust that He will work things out in their best interest. It is definitely less strenuous to feel taken care of, as though someone higher is in control, versus feeling like your on your own. Step 1: Write your goals First of all, you'll want to get your thoughts out of your head and down on paper. Have you ever noticed that when you write your thoughts out, it allows you to organize your ideas? You are then able to make sense of all the brain scatter and regain a sense of clarity. Also it makes our thoughts and ideas become real, concrete tangible things. This is what we want our goals to become. There are different ways to do this. You can do the obvious, pen and paper. Or, you can create a mind-map, also known as brain storming. This can also be done on paper or you may download programs or apps that allow you to do this from a PC, an iPad, or an iPhone. You can check out MindNode, iThoughts, or Freemind to name a few.
Step 2: Assign time frames The second step is to assign a time frame to each goal. Whether it's a month, six months, a year whatever the case. This is another step in making your goals concrete. The time frames should not be related to your priorities. A priority list will only give you an idea of where you be investing most of your time and resources. The time frames will depend on the nature of the goals and the number of steps involved in achieving them. The time frame you give yourself should be reasonable. Not so far out that you put off work, but not so close that your left with stress and anxiety. If you're not sure how much time the goal will take, find people who have gone what you are trying to achieve. If you don't know anyone in your personal social circle, look on line for forums and bloggers.
Step 3: The law of attraction The law of attraction states, that like attracts like. Meaning, you attract to your life whatever it is that you think about each day. For instance, if you constantly stress over financial problems and worry about debt, than you will continue to draw those negative circumstances to your life. However, if you focus on the positive aspects of your life and visualize an abundant future than you'll draw positive experiences and circumstances to your life like a magnet. This law works whether you want it to your not, and whether you believe in it or not. I can tell you from personal experience that the law of attraction is very real. If this is something you have never heard of before, I highly encourage you to watch the DVD titled "The Secret" or read the book.
Step 4- Be an optimist This step ties into the law of attraction. Again, if your outlook on life is positive, you will continue to attract positive things. You will be surprised on the people, situations, and things you will draw into your life simply by having a positive outlook. It is impossible to control every unexpected circumstance that may arise but we can control the way we chose to react to things. There is a quote by Charles Swindoll that I would like to share with you:
The longer I live,the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company... a church...a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable.The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude... I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. Step 5: Pray, meditate and visualize Meditation brings clarity and focus. It is during this mental state when I am able to create a plan and achieve my goals. Also when we pray we are sending a personal and direct request to God for whatever it is that we are seeking. At the same time, we are sending a clear signal to the universe of what we want to manifest. This is because when we pray, we are thinking and visualizing of the thing that we are asking for. If we ask for what we want and have faith that it is coming, then our thoughts will generate emotions of excitement and anticipation. It's these emotion that our thoughts generate that ultimately put of the vibrations or energy needed to attract our dreams and hearts desires.
Step 6: Design a vision board Please do not underestimate this step. Get yourself a large poster board and began attaching pictures, signs, flyers, vacation brochures, whatever images relate to your list of goals. Put the board somewhere that you will see every day. Look at the images, visualize yourself in them. Get excited in knowing that the images you see will be yours in good time. Just to give you an example of what I mean, let me share what I have added to my own vision board. One of my goals is to take a 14 day cruise to Alaska with my family. So I requested a brochure from a popular cruise line, I cut out the front cover and attached it to my board. Another goal is to one day buy a beautiful spacious country home, where my family and I will have acres and acres of land. I found the perfect picture to match my desire on pinterest.com. I printed the image and attached it to my board. I also attached a picture of money, a spacious office, and well you get the point. Again, this is all for the purpose of generating the right energy and vibrational frequency. Step 7: Create a plan Before I began to write out my plan, I like to breakdown each goal down using bullet points. Let me give you an example of what I mean. Say my first goal is to manifest abundance in my life. Well I have to really think about what abundance means to me in terms of what I want to achieve. And in doing this, I have to be specific. This step is not only going to help us create a plan, but in the visualization process as well. Okay so here is what my break down would look like:
Break Down: Goal #1: Abundance
Financial freedom- $100,000 annual income, debt Free. Quality of life- Time spent with loved ones, vacations and cruises. My hearts desires- Spacious five bedroom country home, BMW Plan: Goal #2: Lose Weight (50 pounds) Schedule appointment with nutritionist Began a 1200 calorie per day diet Exercise 2 hours per day, 5 days per week Run 1 mile 2 evenings per week Schedule a follow up visit with nutritionist
Step 8- Schedule deadlines This goes back to the time line topic. If you don't have a deadline set for each aspect of your plan, then it is not concrete and you will be less likely to hold yourself accountable. So get out your datebook or calender and start scheduling those appointments, workouts, or whatever task you have assigned yourself. Again, be realistic about the amount of time you give yourself.

There are many companies that tell you you need to join that company and you will be successful. Many of the so-called guru's will say, "Buy my training and I will show you how to be successful." With all these claims it can be very confusing if you are trying to figure out exactly how to be successful in network marketing.

The Myths About How To Be Successful In Network Marketing
The following is what I am calling myths because they do not guarantee you success in Network Marketing. These do help, but they are not absolutely needed to make money in a MLM.

Many will say join my company and you will be successful. They may point to how great the product is or how great the compensation plan is. However, just take a look at company's income disclosure (they must have one according to the law) and you will notice that some are making a lot of money, but the majority of the people in the company are making nothing, and most are losing money. So joining the "right" company will not make you a successful networker.

A similar myth is spread by some gurus, that is getting the right training. However, truth be told very few of these gurus know how to market. Most make a product and rely on affiliates to actually market the product. There are some great products, but many of them are based in theory as the guy or gal teaching it may have little or no experience in marketing. They basically take information and repackage it into some type of product.  

The other side of these myth is the promise of finding the perfect marketing strategy will catapult you to be successful. The numerous marketing strategies and product launches every week is staggering. This can create information overload for most. This creates categories that many fall into when they go through these types of trainings.  

Some will try out the strategy or put the training in action, and do have success. Others, try it, but run into a problem and stop. Others learn it, but never put it into action. The the last group buys the product, but never go through the training. Most fall into the last three groups, this keeps the guru and training programs with enough customers that will continue to buy product after product.

Many marketers live from product to product launch. Without these launches, they would make little or no money.  

A lot of nuggets there and I strayed off topic a little. But, I think we clearly say that knowing how to do something while important, does not mean that you will be successful in MLM.

The next is joining the right team. Very similar the join the right company myth. Very similar to the company myth. Joining a great team and having a great up-line, does not mean that you will succeed.

Some will tell you that you need a mentor. This could be someone in your up-line or a leader that you follow. Again having a great mentor definitely helps, but does not mean that you will be successful.

I know that it may seem that I am being negative when I am writing these myths. It is actually a little fun:-)

Having all the above is great and helps, but notice they are outside of you. There are two things that come from the inside, and if you have them you are guaranteed to be successful in network marketing. Have just 1 and you will not succeed in MLM.

How To Be Successful In Network Marketing
There two things that will ensure that you will be successful in network marketing. The number one thing is desire. Luckily, most have a desire for a better life. It is just natural. You may need to hone that desire to be more focused, but that is not that hard to do.  

If you have a clear desire to be successful in network marketing, then the chances of you finding a way to be successful is good. But, you can guarantee your success if you have desire and the success thought process.

What is the success thought process?

This is the willingness to train yourself to think like successful people. There is no course that I know of that can teach you how to think like successful people. But there is two ways you can do this. That is through reading and listening to audios of successful people. This done over time you will start emulate the ideas in the audios and in the writings.

When you start thinking like successful people, you will start doing the action that is required to be successful. Then you are successful.

Do you have a business that has a multi-generational workforce and are sometimes just outright puzzled at how to deal with the leadership development issues that come with such a workforce mix?

Young professionals want to be led in a very different way than their elders. If you want to succeed in a Generation Y world, focus on how they want to be led; don't get caught in a generational gap.

In my current place of business, I see and deal with the generational gaps firsthand. Too often the Baby Boomers think the Gen X crowd is lazy and the Gen X crowd thinks the Gen Y folks are entitled "kids."

We have one middle manager that is in his late 40's (Baby Boomer) who often walks around the office floor at 6 p.m. to take inventory of who's still working. What he generally finds is a decent portion of the Gen X crowd still working diligently, while the Gen Y crowd has gone for the night. Does this scenario sound familiar to you, whether it is in your corporate workplace or your own business?

This middle manager is portraying the typical leadership style of a Baby Boomer; who feels that people have to put in long hours and 'pay their dues' to move up the corporate ladder.

However, those of us in the Gen X and Gen Y buckets tend to try and have more of a 'work/life balance.' The boomers often see this as laziness and entitlement, thus the leadership gap when it comes to the current multi-generational workforce we're dealing with.

Great leadership means understanding your peoples' 'needs and wants.' Let's briefly discuss how the generations differ, so you can develop your leadership skills and learn how to approach each generation, no matter which one you're in.

Keep in mind, that these are generalizations about large groups of people, so not everyone is going to fit into their respective 'bucket' perfectly.

Baby Boomers - As I mentioned above, 'Boomers' traditionally believe in the 'paying of dues' approach. Keep chugging along, remain loyal to your company, listen to your elders, put in your hours and eventually you'll be rewarded with your promotions and payday. If you hate your job, that's just part of paying your dues and a normal fact of life. They treasure hard work over everything and feel that you have to "do what you gotta do."

Generation X and Generation Y, on the other hand, often have a completely different way of working and different leadership styles than their Boomer counterparts. The new generational workforce is social and cares more about the pursuit of an interesting, fulfilling, less stressful career than the Boomers. They want flexible hours, continuous training and development, more vacation time, and expect to leverage technology to work more effectively, rather than grind out those long hours just to put in the 'face time' at the office.

A Global CEO survey performed by PriceWaterhouseCoopers showed the Millennials would rather have career development than a bonus by a margin of 3 to 1.

Also, given another opportunity, these Millennials would leave organizations that don't want to help them develop their careers. They don't care so much about the money, they prefer great leadership and executives and colleagues who will teach them the leadership skills necessary to succeed in their preferred fields.

Are you finding that these statements are hitting home based on your current workforce? Can you understand how these generational gaps can cause big issues in the workplace if they are not addressed? One group thinks the other is lazy and not loyal, while the other thinks they are overworked and inefficient.

So, what can you do to ensure the new leadership group will both, mesh with the current aging workforce and want to stay with your company for the long haul?

Here are a few tips:

1. Offer training programs; especially those that develop leadership skills, time management, new technologies in your respective workplace, and how to manage work and family. Gen X and Y love training and learning, and are very focused on work/life balance. This will allow you to entice the younger workforce into staying and also will give the Boomers some perspective on what the younger generation wants.

2. Increase benefits, such as vacation time and company offsites. The new generation 'works to live,' they don't 'live to work.' As such, they have lives outside of work, love to vacation, and generally feel that life is too short to work all the time. Allow an extra week of vacation if you can afford to do so; give them the option of telecommuting periodically throughout the month, and allow them flexible work hours as long as their work is getting done effectively and efficiently.

3. Give the Gen X & Gen Y crowd some autonomy. Leadership that isn't always hovering over your shoulder will go along way with the new generations. Also, they don't want leadership that thinks they run the show, just because they have a higher title. Gen X and Gen Y are very much into the Earned vs. Granted Leadership dichotomy.

There is no doubt in my mind that the newer generations have goals and priorities that seem worlds apart from those that are leaders in current society, but if you want to bridge the generational gap, you are going to have to learn the leadership skills that will allow you to do so effectively.

This is more on the normal career mode and not the new classic mode that allows the game to move along quicker and not have to worry about many details of the game.

One thing I always worry about when I hear about the new Football Manager game is if my PC is powerful enough to play it. Years ago I used to play on a very old computer and it took ages for it to process things.

So any Football Manager 2013 review is going to mention the speed of the game. This has been a problem with many of the former versions of this game.

Football Manager 2013 processes really well and quick. However, if you want to run the 3D view of the matches you will need a more up to date computer. However, the older computer can still run the 2D view or just the text part if you want.

The Features I Like In Football Manager 2013

The first feature I noticed was the stream lined look of the game. It looks really slick and it is a joy to click through the screens looking at all the stats, players, and anything else in the game.

Your assistant manager is much more active in Football Manager 2013. He will give you advice on a number of issues including training, media handling, suggestions for new players, player relations, and tactics. Also in the matches he will give you his view of the match. Of course, it is up to you if you choose to accept his advice or dismiss it.

The training is now laid out in on a calender. You can choose what you want to focus on and the intensity of the trainings. There are all the other options to train a player in a specific area and new positions are still there. I found it much easier to navigate and understand than the previous games.

The other feature I used a lot since I play in lower leagues most of the time is the option to sign a player on a rolling contract or game-to-game contract. This makes it easier to bring in a lot of new players without spending a lot of money on contracts.

Of course, the downside is the player can easily leave your club at anytime as other clubs can offer him a contract without paying any compensation to you. You can also cut players very easily and not have to pay any penalty.

I noticed a huge part of the game now is the media. There are many press conferences that you can attend. You can send your assistant if you choose. This do get repetative after some time. However, my personally I like the press conferences.

Thee are also time to have team meetings and meeting with a player. I used these a little and they work very well. I have used it when the team was not playing well and with players not in good form. The next match I won 6-1 on the road.

I am enjoying my current game in Football Manager 2013 playing with Truro City. There is not much I dislike in my Football Manager 2013 review.

1999 - Tony Hsieh invests $0.5 million in an online shoe store 2000 - Zappos gets rejected by numerous investors and runs out of money. Hsieh begins funding operations with his own money and sets his salary at $24 2002 - Hsieh sells his high end condo to continue funding the business, all against the wishes of his family and advisers 2005 - Amazon.com offers to buy Zappos, Hsieh declines the offer. He stated "If we sold, we'd probably be folded into their operations and our brand and culture would be at risk of disappearing" 2009 - Amazon.com agrees to let Zappos remain independent and buys Zappos for $1.2 billion and Hsieh remains the company's CEO (his annual salary remains a whopping $36,000)

Without the passion and leadership of Hsieh, Zappos would have gone bankrupt in 2000; now they are one of the most successful companies in the world. Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon, and another great leader saw the strength of Tony Hsieh's business and properly allowed Hsieh to continue to lead Zappos into the future; showing the foresight of trusting in a brilliant leader.

Let's look at another example. General Electric; even in turbulent times, focused on leadership and has churned out numerous c-level executives over the years (Leadership extraordinaire Jack Welch being their most famous alumni).

Their mission is to inspire, connect and develop the leaders of today and tomorrow. GE spends close to $1 billion per year on training; yes, you read that correctly, $1 billion. They have been an incredible company for decades and they are known for their leadership development. Coincidence? I don't think so.

Simply put, people need leaders and so do businesses. The current environment is a turbulent one, but also extremely exciting in terms of technological advances and the true globalization of the business world. You need to be able to develop leaders that will make a difference in your business and be able to adapt to the ever changing world.

You might think that, but Apple believes that everything they do should challenge the status quo and as a company, they transfer that inspirational leadership and passion to their people and products.

Simon Sinek lays it out beautifully in his speech on How Great Leaders Inspire Action as seen on TED.com (found at 3:20 of the video). Apple is an incredible brand; one we should all learn from.

So, why build up your brand from a leadership perspective? Here are three good reasons to think about (even though there are dozens more):

1. Creates Trust - Let's return to Apple for a moment. They have gone to great lengths to build up customers' trust, so current and potential customers trust that whatever they buy from them will be of top quality. It's why people wait in line for days to get the next generation phone when theirs is working perfectly fine.

Half the time, consumers don't even look at it, they just buy it because it's Apple! Ok, while large corporations seem to have an endless supply of funding, that doesn't mean you can't build up your brand without breaking the bank.

With social media outlets such as Facebook and Twitter, you can demonstrate to people the true leadership skills you've ascertained over the years by getting involved in conversations and building relationships (I've actually discussed using Twitter as a branding tool in a previous post). Those trusting relationships are what will drive potential clients or customers to trust your brand and allow you to influence their decision to follow you, not someone else. Those that learn the skills to leverage the influence of their networks will achieve a much greater level of success and will be seen as leaders in their niche; it's that simple.

2. Attracting Your Ideal Client - I won't go too deeply into this one, as I've already discussed your Appropriate Target Market in an earlier post. But, a strong leadership brand will enable you to connect directly to the wants and needs of your preferred client base. By building the appropriate leadership skills and speaking to the clients that will actually want your service, you're going to build your business that much faster.

If you're an employee, you'll get your superiors to see what leadership skills you bring to the organiziation, thus helping you get promoted. A strong branded message will attract that preferred client base and you'll be better off for it.

3. Create "Barriers to Entry" in your niche - As Shakespeare wrote in Romeo and Juliet; "What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet." That quote speaks to how what matters is what something IS, not what it's called. You are exactly that..."You".

Your competitors can try all they want to duplicate your brand and leadership style, but your strong brand will make that incredibly difficult. You are effectively putting up barriers to entry by building a strong brand because competitors will have to convince potential clients that they should be trusted instead of you.

Powerful branding will make that an uphill battle for the competition if your brand displays who "you" truly are and what you stand for, rather than just a fancy logo. That being said, be sure you emphasize what makes you unique and keep that in all your messaging to your audience. Be consistent and clear in your message and your audience will understand that you are more than just a name or picture.

I was reading through some job postings recently for fairly high level leadership positions (VP's, Directors, etc.) and one of the necessary qualifications listed was, must be able to influence without authority.

Now, while I won't go into a rant about how they are basically telling you how they are going to underpay you, yet expect you to lead others without getting compensated for it (that's for another day), I will discuss how the current world is changing dramatically when it comes to leadership.

It is clear that in the current environment of lean workplaces, the lines of leadership and position have become blurred. As such, it is extremely important for you to be able to, as the placement post states, Influence without authority. Interesting concept if you ask me, but it's not as difficult as one might think.

Here are three techniques and strategies that you can use to influence others to whom you do not have direct line authority.
Leaders live the Law of Reciprocity. People tend to return a favor that is given to them. Can you think of a time when someone helped you in any way, then later asked you to help them out? You probably said, "sure, no problem".

Humans are innately driven to bond with other humans. Most of us are driven to find people similar to ourselves and get to know them. In fact, most people experience positive emotions when they are associated with others and negative emotions when they are isolated. It's no different in a leadership perspective.

The drive to BOND also leads to emergence of cooperation. In order to stay positively connected to the group, an individual must naturally keep track of their indebtedness to others and reciprocate in a way that maintains the relationship. Even something as simple as someone saying "hi, how are you" we're often driven to say well, and YOU?...... having others feel good feelings toward you and wanting to reciprocate is going to go a long way in you leading them.

This may not qualify as a leadership skill per se that needs to be learned, just something to be cognisant of.

Lead by example. As proven by the Asch Conformity Experiments, individuals will perform tasks if they witness others doing them. Does the phrase "Monkey See, Monkey Do" ring a bell?

Leading by example is one of the most powerful ways of influencing others. This is a fairly simple theory, but one where many leaders fall flat. Individuals that are granted a leadership position often think their followers should do what they ask, just because they are in a position of power.

Use this as your warning...don't do that! Always think before you speak or act; if you want the group to follow you for your leadership skills, your actions are going to be looked upon as evidence of who you are and individuals want to follow someone they believe is like them.

So, if you act toward others and don't ask them to do anything you would not do, that goes a long way in building trust with the group, regardless of whether you are their boss or not. If you are seen performing a task often, then ask others in your sphere of influence to help you out, they are much more likely to help you.

I have heard the phrase "You Can't Teach What You Don't Know and You Can't Lead Where You Won't Go" many times and I really think it's pretty damned accurate! That leads me to my last tip.

Be the Expert. Let's go back and re-read the first part of that last quote; "You Can't Teach What You Don't Know" One thing nobody can ever take away from you is your knowledge - they can dispute it, sure, but they can't take away what you know.

That being said, you can influence others to agree with any decision you make by providing a clear logic, an explanation of the benefit of that action and reassurance that it is the right piece of advice in that specific situation.

Leadership stems from knowledge, so if you display that you are the most knowledgeable person in the room on the specific topic you are discussing, it doesn't matter what title you have, others will follow you simply because they want to learn from others that know something they don't. So, understand your area of expertise and make sure you put yourself in a position to use that expert knowledge to influence others.
Now that you're armed with some tips, remember this, you CAN NOT sharpen your leadership skills from just blogs, books, DVD's, online courses, etc. You learn leadership and leadership skills by DOING. Tell, Show, Try, Do. Think about that....you can watch 100 videos on how to juggle, but when you turn off the video, it's not like you're magically going to be able to juggle. You need to take the tips from those trainings and practice what you've learned.

What sets Football Manager apart?

Most of the more popular sports games here in the US, you pick a team and in the actual games you control a player. If you are good, you can turn a terrible player into a great player because you control everything he does.

This is not so in Football Manager as the player is the manager of the team. As the manager you do what a manager does. You can sell a player or buy a player, you control training, tactics, and do pretty much what a real manager does. Doing all this well dealing with relationships with your players, other coaches, board, media, and of course fans.

If you do great job, your players, coaches, and fans will love you. Do not so well and everyone could turn against you. If you sell a popular veteran and start losing matches, your players may turn against you, fans will start calling for your job, and the board will sack you.

Sounds too much like real life, but it is fun.

Why do I like Football Manager?

I found Footall Manager (it was called Championship Manager at that time) in 2001. I have always loved the career mode in other sports video games. I was reading a review of some baseball game that was centered around the player management part of the game over getting good at pressing buttons. In the review, they called Championship Manager the best game in this genre of games.

I found it on a website and ordered it. It was nothing like I have played before. It was a text based game at that time. The moment of the match were showed by text describing what was happening in the match. But despite this I feel in love with the game and it really the only video game I play now.

Football Manager have come a long ways forward now as the matches went from text based to 2D (22 dots running around the screen) to matches being in 3D now. However, you can still play the game in the other modes if you want.

Since most of football leagues around the world have a system of promotion and relegation of teams between divisions, it is possible to take a small team and try to build the team into a powerhouse.

To me this is something I really enjoy doing and I have been playing the demo of Football Manager 2013 and this looks like it will be another year I am buying Football Manager.

It caught my attention because at first I thought it was a spoof, something from Saturday Night Live. I watched to see if it was a spoof.

To my surprise it was a real product and a real commercial.

The GoJo Hands Free Infomercial

The informercial starts with Joe Gray, who is pitching the product. He tries to convince you that Blue Tooth and head phones are not true hands free devices, but GoJo Hands free is the only true "hands free" device.

Many people who are not that technical maybe drawn to the product as GoJo Hands Free does not require batteries and does not have wires and seems easy to use.

What the product does is it allows the user hold the phone against the user's face so they can talk with their hands free. It does this in a very simple and very low tech way.

The GoJo Hands Free device is just a plastic head band that has a suction cup on one end. You use the suction cup on your phone and put the headband over your head. This keeps the phone against your phone like you were holding it, but both of your hands are free.

The infomercial does the normal thing of offering some bonuses, this a free mat that keeps electronic devices from sliding while you are driving. Then Joe Gray doubles the offer with 4 GoJo Hands Free devices and two mats, you just pay processing and handling on the second one.

Some Problems With The GoJo Hands Free

By far the biggest problem I have is how stupid it looks to wear one of the devices. The infomercial does try to make it seems cool, most of the people in the infomercial are young and attractive, but to me I would have to laugh if I saw someone in public with it on.

The other problem is mostly for touch screen phones. The device smashes the device against your face. So you will get a lot of skin oil on your touch screen. So you will either need to be cleaning your screen a lot or use a lot of the plastic protective skins. Unless a dirty screen does not bother you.

The last problem, is do you really trust this cheap plastic headband to hold a few hundred dollar phone? I paid about $200 for my iPhone and I am not sure I would trust the GoJo Hands Free to hold my phone.

I know in the infomercial, Joe Gray hooks a 5 pound laptop to the GoJo Hands Free and it holds the laptop. But I do not trust everything I see in an infomercial.

I know for me, though I love the infomercial just for the humor aspect, I will not buy an GoJo Hands Free product. I will just use my speaker phone when I need to have my hands free.

Let's brainstorm... Think of a few times in your life when someone has asked you to "follow me" (or something to that effect). Maybe it was a parent, a boss, a tour guide, whomever. Now think about the specifics of each situation, how eager were you to execute on their request? If it were your boss, you might have felt you had no choice, so you followed.

If it were a parent, mentor or trusted friend you may have been quite happy to follow them where ever they chose to take you. When you compare these scenarios, was your leader's style very similar or quite different?

What I've learned over the years, through research, as well as general experience, is that there is no single leadership trait found in all leaders. One thing is certain however, regardless of style, leadership is earned not granted.

Continue reading with me here and we'll discuss the difference between "Earned Leadership" and "Granted Leadership" and what the heck those terms actually mean.

Granted Leadership is when someone is given a position of power which may have come as a result of wealth, connections, a forceful personality, a lucky break, etc. A simple example would be someone taking over a family business. People are often granted a position of power when the original family founder is retiring, regardless of their tenure or experience level in the business.

However, don't confuse that position of "power" with leadership; positional power alone will not make someone a leader. Earned Leadership is gained through a process of gaining the respect and trust of your followers (it's not always a simple process either...it can sometimes be a long and arduous experience).

Earned leadership is often achieved through leading by example and earning the trust of your people by showing them you're with them all the way, regardless of your position. Leadership is extremely personal and is not something that you can purchase or inherit. Leaders that fail to genuinely connect with their would-be followers are doomed to fail themselves.

If you are anything like me, you almost always 'buy' the leader well before you buy the vision. John Maxwell who wrote 'The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership,' states that "people naturally follow leaders stronger than themselves. This is The Law of Respect." More simply put, 'Monkey See, Monkey Do.'

Employees normally have to accept your orders as their boss/manager, but they will always make their own choice if they want to follow you beyond job requirements.

Ever wonder why employees really quit their jobs? The truth of the matter is 4 of the top ten reasons (as discussed in a study of nearly 20,000 job quitters) have to do with poor leadership.

So, you tell me which type of leadership is more effective.

If you answered Earned Leadership, you're correct. Now, if the best type of leadership is earned, how does one go about gaining the leadership skills needed to 'earn' the position of an effective leader?

Leadership is earned both by past example and current actions. It's earned by having ideas that inspire people (most importantly those ideas should inspire you). In order to truly lead, or move forward, you need to have been there before, and if not, you have to show you're willing to go there first and show your followers the way.

In essence, you need to have credibility with the group through proven experience or show them you're willing to learn alongside them. You don't have to know everything, that's for sure; you just need to understand what your people want and where to look for the answers you don't have.

This reminds me of a quote, which you may have heard before, and while a bit hokey, it's very true..."You can't teach what you don't know and you can't lead where you won't go." The person in a position of granted leadership will often have no idea what is going on in others' heads, nor seek the answer to that question,  Often these 'leaders' just assume people should listen to them simply because they are in a perceived position of authority.

The Earned Leader, however, will not only ask their people questions to seek answers as to what they are thinking or what drives them, but they will be leading the charge, with passion, toward their vision. This positional power of Granted Leadership will get people to respect the position for what it is, while personal or Earned Leadership will get people to respect you for who you are.

How can you utilize this basic syndication strategy to create a good flow of traffic and improve your visibility? The answer is in content syndication, also referred to as article syndication. As a fine bottle of cognac gets better with age given the right conditions, how do we make sure we are given the right conditions to make sure that we get only get better with age? More importantly, are you aging like a fine bottle of cognac? Do you feel beautiful sexy and powerful?

That is how I feel now but it hasn't always been this way. A few years ago I realized that I was aging but not like a fine bottle of cognac! My life was out of control as I was taking care of everyone and everything other than myself. To cope with the stress of my life, my work and my aging parents, I was using food as a reward. Over time, I realized that I was eating myself to death and I had gained over 25 pounds in a year. I realized I had lost my power over my life and my relationship with food.

I looked at myself and I was disgusted. I was FAT. Even though I was the master of camouflaging the FAT, I was still FAT. I was wearing more and more matronly and baggy clothes to hide how big I felt and looked. Not good!

I no longer felt beautiful sexy and powerful. Worse yet, I knew that I was at high risk for heart disease and diabetes which ran in my family as well as a multitude of other conditions related to obesity. I also knew that a new diet was not going to take care of this. I was done with dieting. I also realized that I had a serious issue with my relationship with food. Why was I eating so poorly? Why was I always hungry?

Taking care of ourselves can be a challenge. I know. I've been there! There is an incredible lack of information out there as to how to keep our power and not get lost in taking care of everyone and everything except yourself. How do you find your beautiful sexy and powerful self who has control over food, schedules, family and the list continues.

I took back my power and changed how I approached my life and food. As a result, I lost the 25 lbs and an additional 20 lbs and 30 inches. I now exercise regularly and I am happy and I am beautiful, sexy and powerful. Feeling beautiful and sexy though is not about weight as much as it is about how one feels inside and how one handles food and stress. I am in the best shape of my life and I enjoy and love life! I eat the foods I love not out of hunger but out of enjoyment when I am truly hungry.

What was more interesting was that several of my friends came to me for advice as to how I had done this. I started coaching them. I loved seeing their results and the joy with which they approached their new bodies as well as their lives as they took back their power. Once your cruise ship vacation has been booked then preparations for the trip need to start and these should not be left to the last minute.  There are a lot of things other than what luggage you are going to take with you that need looking into.  If  your planning is not detailed enough then some nasty surprises could be forthcoming which could thoroughly ruin your cruise.

After about 20-30 videos you will become more relaxed, and natural. It will seem like you are talking a good friend and you will get good at doing video marketing.

You can get into the editing and adding special effects, but this is not needed, it is totally optional. This is something you can add later as you get going, it is not needed at the beginning.

What Was Zeek Rewards

Zeek Rewards was based around the site Zeekler. This is a penny auction site. It was an reward program that allowed members to buy into a profit sharing program.

Zeek Rewards had run into problems in the pasts with its model. Earlier this year they did hire two MLM firms to make sure that everything was legal.

However, the North Carolina Attorney General (Zeek Rewards was based in North Carolina) believed that Zeek Rewards is a Ponzi scheme. He was able to get the SEC to launch an investigation because according the government Zeek Rewards were issuing investments without the proper crediation.

The result was that the SEC closed Zeek rewards.

According the complaint filed by the SEC, Zeek Rewards was on the verge of collapsing. That by moving in now and closing Zeek Rewards it allowed for some of the investors to get some of their money back before it collapsed.

The owner, Paul Burks, of Zeek Rewards was accused of taking around $4 million dollars from the investments. He has since agreed to pay back this money and any fines that may be coming. He also agreed to give up ownership of Zeek Rewards.

The reaction to the news that the SEC closed Zeek Rewards

If you are in the home based industry, this casts a very bad light on an industry that is not well trusted. While there are some great companies in MLM and the home based businesses, the bad ones get most of the press making even the good companies look suspicious.

The other part that does not help are those who are in other businesses seem to report with glee that Zeek Reward was closed by the SEC. Some are just looking to make a quick buck to get those in Zeek Rewards to jump to their company.

Others have started blasting those that were in Zeek Rewards for operating a Ponzi Scheme.

If you are in the network marketing or associated with Network Marketing, this should make you feel sick to your stomach. Remember these are real people who are chasing their dreams of financial freedom.

If they made a nice income through Zeek Rewards that is gone now since the SEC closed Zeek Rewards. Instead of bashing or trying to recruit those that were in Zeek Rewards we should support them and help them to know that only way forward is to look and focus on the future.

The past is the past and nothing in the past dictates what the future holds.

The Problems With Using Wordpress To Make Money Online

It does not matter if you are in network marketing or an affiliated marketer, the best thing you can do to make money online is to work on building a list of people. They willingly give you their email and this allows you to email them with value and offers to buy products or to join your network marketing business.

To build your list, you have to know where to put the capture pages or banners, what words to use to get people to enter their email. It will take training and testing, but it could take months of testing to figure out what works best. You would always have to be changing things around, maybe even hiring a new designer to get everything to work.

Sounds like a lot of work to me because it is. You could continually be guessing at what is right.

Then you have the whole Search Engine Optimization (SEO) to try to get your blog ranked in the search engines. This can require hours and hours of work backlinking things back to your content. The way Empower Network is designed; you have a huge advantage over someone going out and starting their own website like I mentioned above. With very little SEO, you will be able to be found in the search engines. So if you are into backlinking, you can still do it and rank higher, but it is not required with Empower Network.

Final Word: My Experience

I have done both of the above. I have started a Wordpress blog, and I have an Empower Network blog.

I had the problems with Wordpress that I wrote about above, I always had with my Wordpress blog. I have had this blog for over 3 years now and the most leads (the people who gave me their email) I got in one day from this blog is 1.

Then with Empower Network, on July 13th I got 3 leads in one day. All leads came from visitors visiting my blog.

As far as SEO, I did some very technical stuff with my Wordpress blog getting a lot of backlinks. I did go some periods where I would blog everyday. Last October, I went 30 days with one blog post a day. I choose to give you my stats from being found in the search engines from November of last year. Novermber's stats were better than the stats October.

I had 103 keywords and a total of 164 visits from the search engines for that month.

In Empower Network, I have been doing about a blog a day for a week or two. I go more consistent in blog posts, but very recently to one a day the past two weeks. But I did almost no backlinking for this, just posts in social media.

I had 209 visits from 87 keywords. They keywords are almost the same number, but the visits much more with Empower Network.

So you can be the judge about which one is the best blogging platform. As far as money, I have made more money from Empower Network than any other affiliate product or network marketing company that I have been part of. I am continuing to make money online from Empower Network.

I just got back from an awesome week in Aruba with my wife and daughter and it struck me how similar everyday life can be to running your own business. It got me to thinking about the one quality that everyone needs to survive, in business and in life.
 
Years ago, on vacations Kristen and I would hike to distant waterfalls and kayak through jungles on adventures to find that incredible photo and find ourselves in the middle of nowhere with no one around.
 
We'd scuba dive, snorkel and swim with dolphinssitting on the beach was something reserved for the rare days we weren't out exploring the unknown.
 
This trip was quite different. We spent most days on the beach and swimming around with our daughter and catering to her schedule. We still did what we wanted, but making sure our daughter was happy was first and foremost, primarily because that's what brought us joy.
 
While it was a very different trip for us, I wouldn't change anything for the world. Watching the constant smile on my daughter's face all week and seeing her cuddle up and fall asleep each night from sheer exhaustion of having so much fun made my day.
 
Each night Kristen and I would sit on the balcony (at 9pm when in the past we'd be just heading out to dinner) and reflect on the day and how blessed we are to have this little girl.
 
Yes, our trips and adventures are quite different now, but that doesn't mean they aren't fun. In fact, it might be even more rewarding because we are bringing such joy to this little girl who is in fact returning more joy back to us.
 
Looking back on how trips have changed (and much of our lives for that matter), it struck me how similar everyday life can be to running/beginning your own business.
 
In order to be successful in business, and in life in general, you need to BE FLEXIBLE (and I don't mean Yoga-type flexible, although that is probably good for you too!).
 
With increasing global competition and rapid technological changes, flexibility will be critical to keeping up with, and driving changes in today's business environment.
 
If you can't roll with the punches and learn from the changes in your life or business, you'll never make it. So, sit back, relax and take it all in as it comes your way and enjoy every minute of it.

Her parents at one point were talking about a funny commercial they had just seen on tv a couple nights before. While it sounded pretty humorous, her parents got a much bigger kick out of the commercial than we did.
 
Why is that?
 
The reason is because we probably weren't the target market of that commercial (well, at least we shouldn't have been if the marketing was done correctly). You see, a lot of marketers out there try and appeal to as many people as humanly possible, but that's just not the best use of your efforts!
 
Really hone in on your "Appropriate Target Market" (your 'ATM') and you'll watch your business explode.
 
Ok, that's the simple part; telling you that the 'broad brush strokes' method isn't going to cut it in marketing. Now, you need to learn a few things and you'll be well on your way to boosting your marketing efforts ten-fold!
 
You need to first think about yourself and what you are selling. If it's a product, think about who it really appeals to. You don't see Disney putting single people in their commercials...they show happy families!
 
So, they are specifically marketing to people in their 30's, 40's and 50's (not so much to the little children because they aren't the ones paying for the trip). They get you as a parent to thinking how happy your children will be when they are there and those of us with children know, happy children = happy parents!
 
If you are marketing yourself as a consultant or marketing a business opportunity in the Network Marketing world, you don't have to think about the target audience like you would for a product. Yes, you want to market to a certain segment, but what you are really marketing to is people YOU want to work with.
 
Life is too short to just work with anyone who will listen. You will ultimately be happier (and more successful) if you work with like-minded people that see things the way you do and you enjoy being around.
 
So, you have to do a little soul searching and think about who you'd like to work with, then appeal to that segment of the population. You also want to keep the 'net' fairly narrow because if you try a broad marketing approach, it will be very difficult.
 
Just think about yourself over the years...I'm sure the advertising that you thought was great when you were 15 is quite different now, perhaps decades later.
So, if you are trying to appeal to men/women, ages 20-70....how easy do you think that will be!? Not very.
 
Think of a major league baseball player...say a first baseman. They have honed their craft on one specific position and mastered it. You very rarely see the "utility man" in baseball be the big earner. A bit off track in the reference, but you get the point.
 
Find your specific target and you're much more likely to be successful in your efforts. If you are worried about not having a large enough audience.....there are 7+ billion people on this planet; believe me, you'll have plenty of people to market to.
 
This may seem like a harder task than it is, but it really isn't hard. Dig deeper into who you really are, who you want to be, then go out and market yourself and your products to similar people.
 
It is MUCH easier to relate to those like yourself than someone on a totally different wavelength, and it's that relationship that will help you succeed.
