What You MUST Know About Rottweiler Training
Author:
When it comes to Rottweiler training there is one critical thing you must know and this that you must establish your role as the alpha dog right away.  You see, most Rottweiler's by nature want to be "top dog" so you must let him know that you are the leader in order to be able to train him properly.

There are a few things you can do to help let your dog know you are boss.

One of these is to always make sure that he waits for you to go through any doorway first.

Another is to flip him over on his back and rub his belly as much as possible.  This is a very submissive posture for your dog and the more he does it (and likes it) the better.

Finally, you want to look your Rottie in the eye and make sure that he looks down or away first.  In nature, the alpha dog never looks away first so get ready for a stare down!

You want to do these things from the first day you get your dog and even before you start any obedience regimen.  If you establish your dominance then training Rottweiler's can be easy!

Effective Rottweiler training is founded on positive reinforcement. Therefore you should not punish your dog, but reward him for performing a trick. Hitting and yelling at your dog does not work for training and will never get you the results you want. Indeed, positive reinforcement including praise for the desired behavior as well as goodies is usually the way to develop a relationship and the best method for training Rottweiler's that become loving and obedient companions.

Learning how to train a Rottweiler is really no different then learning how to train any other type of dog and using a treat to elicit the desired response is one of the basics of training. The treat ought to be something extremely desired by your dog and not a treat he would get fed every day. You should divide the treat into little pieces so that you have many on hand for your training session. Just a little bit of something particularly tasty is often sufficient to get your dog to desire to carry out any command.

It's important to keep in mind that raining your dog is not an instant thing but with the proper attitude and patience you will quickly have a obedient pet. You may wish to reserve time everyday for a training session. Training sessions don't have to be extended, rigorous ordeals, in reality they shouldn't actually be more than 15 minutes.

During your training sessions with your Rottweiler, you might want to divide things up so that you do 5 minutes of training a new command and then take time out for some playtime. Then try spending a couple more minutes of training and a couple more minutes of play. It really depends on how your dog responds in each training session and you will hit upon a method that works best for them.

When training a Rottweiler, it's a good idea to get him to figure out how to perform the trick on his own. Your task is to coax him to perform the desired action of "sit" or "down" or whatever so that he is conscious of what he is doing. Then when he does the action, you promptly give him a reward and praise him lavishly. Not surprisingly, this requires patience as you need to wait until your dog does what you want.

Proper Rottweiler training is critical to the health and well being of your dog. Because these dogs are so large and many do have a tendency to be somewhat aggressive, you must make sure your dog can be easily controlled.  That way he will be a joy to be around for both people and other animals.
