The old school method of learn to play poker, memorizing poker strategy, statistics and probability has given way to poker players downloading software to assist their play in spite of the spirit or integrity of the game. No longer subject to the one player to a hand rule which applies in poker, cheating online poker is the modern answer to succeeding at the game. Beginning players looking for an easy way to win cash have ignored the skill of the game and turned to cheating online poker.

Poker Tools such as poker HUDs (heads up display) or enhanced player assisted devices (EPAs, such as calculators and poker bots) are not only illegal in the eyes of every major online poker site, they are in reality used specifically for cheating online poker players. The online poker sites use their own countermeasures to police, detect and disable online poker cheating players. Ultimately allowing honest poker players to defend against online poker cheating.

The answer to discovering when players are utilizing HUDs or EPAs is found in the online poker sites use of special poker algorithms. The intent of these poker algorithms are to block players from winning by cheating online poker. The primary task of one poker algorithm is in finding disallowed programs such as pokertracker, poker bots or calculators that are running on your computer while playing online poker. The second step in the poker algorithms, after detection, is to alter the play against you as a form of 'punishment' for using such prohibited software. This method is the equivalent of catching and punishing cheating online poker players.

The poker algorithm will not warn the cheating online poker player. Instead it will intentionally deal a bad beat to the offender. The method works in the following manner: A player detected using such software will be dealt a strong poker hand that appears to be an overwhelming winner. His opponent will also be dealt a poker hand that is impossible for him to fold, (a strong draw or a higher hand). Inevitably, the cheating online poker player will end up losing a good portion of his stack in the hand purposely dealt by the poker algorithm to cause him to lose. This is the reason you see so many bad beats and suckouts online.

However, there are a few pitfalls in the cheating online poker algorithm method. What if you were NOT cheating? What if you simply were playing the best game possible? Online poker algorithms can NOT detect whether you are a solid player, only whether you are cheating online poker. Therefore, if you get caught in the trap by a poker algorithm, that's just the way online poker works. Unfortunately, the poker algorithms are necessary to the online poker rooms to catch cheaters although good players will suffer the backlash from these merciless algorithms. Keep in mind that your opponents in an online poker room are not only the various players, you also must contend and beat the software. Poker algorithms are designed to ensure fair play even though they may actually limit that fairness based on erroneous codes
