Tire Safety Checks Before Road Trips
You should always make sure to check the condition of your vehicle's tires especially if you are going on a long trip. Since your tires are the most exposed during your road trip, it can easily get damaged during your drive if you don't make sure that it is in good running condition. A flat tire would sure dampen your fun and exciting road trip especially if you have to spend some hours on the side of the road trying to replace that damaged tire. If you want to have a smooth drive, then it would do you some good to pay attention to your tires. You can make sure that they are well maintained by doing the following tire safety checks:
1. Check your tires' air pressure. You should do this routinely, and not just before long road trips. Different vehicles have different proper inflation pressures so make sure that you check your manual for the correct pressure required for your tires.
2. Check your tires' tread depth. The easiest way to do this is by placing a quarter into the tread grooves of your tire. Part of Washington's head should be covered by the tread. If not, then it means that you are in need of a tire replacement. Make sure that you do the coin-check in several treads of the tire, both in the inside and outside edges. That way you can also check if your tire is aligned properly.
3. Check for other damages. Make sure that your tires have no cuts and cracks that can cause them to lose air pressure. If you see deep gashes and fissures then you would have to replace your tires to avoid the inconvenience of getting a flat tire later on.
If you need to have your tires changed, you can do it yourself or you can have them replaced by an auto mechanic who has the right tools and equipments for the tire change.
