The internet is an amazing place. YOu can find
free advice on almost anything you want. However, there are a lot of scam artists and bad advice out there as well. You should take a little extra caution, and make sure that the information you are getting will work.
1. Check multiple sources-- Double check the information that you find. Sometimes the people writing the advice you are looking for don't have a clue as to what they are talking about. Take a few minutes and look at what several sites have to say, especially if they are trying to tell you to spend some of your hard earned money.
2.Check out the people giving advice- Why should you trust them? Have they been able to help others? look for any information stating that this site is a scam, or if they have any kind of reputation at all.
This can all take a little extra time. But, it won't take as much time as following bad advice. One thing you should look for is an "about me" page. This page should tell you a little about the owner of the site, and why you should listen to what they have to share. You will get a little background,
3.Protect your personal information-- There are many sites that will give you a free book, video, or other information if you give out your email address. This is a great way to find free information on a topic you are interested in. Doing this will usually sign you up for a newsletter where you will get even more free advice over time. However, you have to be careful. There are a lot of people using this to take advantage of people just like you. If they ask for ANY information other than a first name and email address, RUN AWAY!
4. Be wary of advertisements- Almost every website has some form of advertising on them. After all, building and maintaining a high quality website is usually a full time job for several people. However, You need to be aware of how many advertisements are on the page.
One of the biggest clues that someone is just out to milk your wallet is that they will have more advertisements than content. Read everything carefully. Many people have even learned how to disguise their ads in the midddle of the article itself. Stay aware, and you will be just fine.
5. Check the links on the page- Are all the links on the pages of the website pointing to products, or trying to make you buy something? If the site is built to help you, then you should find links to other free information, blogs, and great tips that don't force you to spend any money.
Anyone who is truly out to help you will provide you with more free information, as well advertisements if you want to buy something. Now, it may not be that way on every single page, but check out several pages on the website, and see if there are any links to other free articles, and tips that you can use.
6. Look on Social Sites- Look to see if the site is listed in any of the social sites. Facebook, MySpace, bookmarking sites, and blogs are all great places to find free information. You can also find out if the free sites you are checking out have a presence there. Look at what type of help they provide on the social sites.
Sometimes, you will find that all they do is promote a product, just like you find on their site. If the site owner is using the social sites properly, they will provide free tips, and updates on the social sites as well. If all they are doing is sending out promotions on the social sites, then that is also what they are doing with the articles that they submit.
