With modern technology becoming more advanced at breakneck speed, it's no secret that the world of the free online game is thriving. It is also no surprise that the industry itself has gone from upstart to a multi-million dollar arena in an incredibly diminutive amount of time.

What did come as a surprise, (especially to my comrades and family members) was that I myself have been drawn into this amazing gaming world recently, and I now have the likelihood of being discovered covertly playing online games when I should be checking emails and updating my accounts.

So what changed, and how did one person originally uninterested in the idea of online gaming suddenly develop an insatiable appetite to play free games on the internet?

There are numerous reasons why the free online game universe is so appealing, but for me it is my consummate love of shooting games that ignited my passion. As a youngster I would squander infinite hours inside the arcade playing "Missile Command", "Space Invaders", and "Joe Blade" to name a few. Then upon further growing up it was Duck Hunt, Doom, and other numerous console shoot em ups that kept me active.

I knew that online games offered a wide assortment of gaming choices but I couldn't understand how they would be able to capture the genuine essence of excellent shooting games on a platform that was free, and only required a keyboard or mouse to play. Boy was I sadly mistaken!

On my first visit to a popular gaming website, I discovered a whole section dedicated solely to my beloved shoot em up niche, and the numerous amount of games available to play was staggering. What struck me as even more impressive was I did not even need any special software in order to play. There was no downloading required whatsoever. Simply select my game, click, and commence having fun!

Suddenly returning to my childhood, I sat eagerly staring at the myriad of options displayed before me. What was I going to undertake first?

"Bazooki: A Silent Affair" was the first game to catch my eye, and so I wasted no time in loading her up. What appeared before me immediately caught my attention. Quirky, simplicity in play, and straight out of the old classics mold. A simple concept which requires you to clear various areas of TNT dynamite by pointing and shooting your trusty Bazooka. Nothing overly spectacular, yet extremely addictive.

"Nimble Sniper" and "Kitty Cannon" were the next shooting games responsible for transforming me from an organized, focused and attentive business person to excited youngster for the following two hours, without even realizing dinner time had past!

What this entire little excursion into the free online game world has shown me is first of all, just because games are free, doesn't signify meager game quality. Actually I was literally stupefied by the playability and astoundingly realistic graphics I encountered. The second objective I learned was there is actually an extraordinarily social element involved in the internet gaming industry.

Numerable websites allow interaction with fellow gamers and I thoroughly enjoyed entertaining banter with a number of people during the time I was playing games myself. I discovered after my online gaming experience, regardless of age bracket or gender, career choice, or level of gaming experience, I am currently completely convinced there is an existing game in cyberspace for everyone, and whether you intend it or not, it will have you undeniably hooked!
