Social Networking websites have been exploding over the past few years. Two of the most visited websites are Facebook and Twitter. It is only natural that marketers want to be where the people are and with Social media being free, many are now doing social network marketing
When Twitter exploded a few years ago, network marketers were trying to figure out how to use Twitter. Much of the early training was how to get more followers. This turned into how to automate Twitter, and creating numerous Twitter accounts. From my experience, this did not work for me, and I think there are many that are like me.
Recently, I got to see an exclusive training on Twitter advertising
. It does not focus on getting followers, but more on engaging others on Twitter. Luckily, it is very low tech and free. So even if you are not technical you can do this.
If you have a profile that you left for dead on Twitter, or you are just trying to figure how to use social network marketing on Twitter. We need to look at your profile, because it is very important to have this set up correctly to be attractive on Twitter.
The very first thing people will see when they come to your profile or your tweets is your picture. Be sure to use a smiling and friendly picture. One of the worst things to use is a logo or company name as your profile picture.
As far as the background you can play around with it and change it fit your personality. There are websites that you can create backgrounds for Twitter for free.
The next thing is your description. You have 160 characters to describe yourself. This should be something people can relate to. You can include the area you live, past experiences, what you are dong now. Just try to be very specific here.
There is a lot of noise on Twitter, so you need to stand out from the crowd. Luckily, this is so easy with Twitter. 9 out of 10 marketers are just posting links to sales pages (I admit I have done this in the past also). So to stand out do the opposite, reply to people, retweet, and be a real person. It is OK to post to your blog, but stay away from the sale pages.
I prefer not to automate my tweets. It is so easy to get a software do automate your tweets, but it is very easy to see when someone is automating their tweets. Like I said before be a real person, you can't do this if you are automating your tweets.
There are parts that you will want to automate. You can automate the auto-follow. So when someone follows you on Twitter you automatically follow them back. Furthermore,, you can send an auto direct message when someone follows you. Both can be done free at socialomph.com
A short warning about using the auto-direct message. Do not send a sale page. One of the best messages is to use your Facebook account and have a fun message. It may look l this: "You are cool:-p Connect with me on (your Facebook account)- I love connecting with cool peeps."
This is the first part of setting up your Twitter marketing
