, content is king. That is because Google wants relevant content to show up when people search for a particular keyword or key phrase. On the World Wide Web, your content has to be relevant in order for people searching a topic to be interested in your website.
In the last decade, SEO has seen a dramatic increase in competition and, consequently, the industry has had to adapt. As the numbers of websites has drastically increased, search engine are stuck with the burden to determine which websites rank best for relevancy to a keyword. Google, and many other search engines, read the content on your page and determine how relevant it is to each search query. As such, articles have become a key part of optimizing websites for a particular keyword.
There are three ways in which article writing has changed.
1. The readership is different. A couple of years ago, articles were didactic in nature. In most cases, they were formal, very informative, and covered topics that would interest the general reader. They were similar to the articles you would find in magazines or newspapers. However, article writing has changed because the needs of the online consumers has changed. You would have to look pretty hard to find long, boring articles nowadays. In fact, those types of articles do not do well in Google because they are not as relevant as shorter articles. Rather, Google is now looking for articles that are casual in tone, specifically talking about one in-depth subject and offer useful information to an internet researcher.
2. Demands have changed. Writing for SEO is different because the demands are different. You cannot write on any topic, post it everywhere and claim that it is unique and valuable content. Google is well aware of the fact that content can be duplicated. Thus, the 100 posts of the same article will only be considered 1 original content article in Google's calculations and the 99 others will be considered syndicated or groups of content that add value to the original article. That being said, you will have to write a lot to start seeing results. Google wants unique, fresh, and innovative content. There is a strategy to writing effective article. It is more an art than a science. Once you have mastered the art of article writing, you are well on your way to becoming a professional search engine optimizer.
3. Technology has changed. Highly intuitive search engines such as Google have really played the biggest role in altering the way articles are written. With countless improvements over the years, Google seems to have developed the ability to read the content on a website. Rather than just determining the number of words in an article, and determining the subject matter by the number of times a specific keyword is repeated, Google algorithms look at the whole body of work as a whole. Google is now looking for websites that are able to hold their visitors for a longer period of time and paying close attention to articles with a natural approach to language. The longer you stay on a website, the more content you find interesting and valuable.
