There are several reasons why Photoshop is the premier photo editing software. First of all, it is not hard to learn. If you are willing to put in the time to learn this exciting program, you can find tons of great resources online that will help you along the way.
There are entire websites dedicated to teaching you how to Photoshop. Plus, you can find video tutorials, blogs, and articles with a simple search on Google. At least give it a try. You cannot image just how powerful this software really is.
There are three strategies that are commonly used to improve a photo. The following methods are effective whether you are retouching old photos or fixing photographic artifacts on recent vacation pictures.
The first, and perhaps most powerful, tools you can use when learning
how to Photoshop are the
brightness and contrast sliders. When photos are taken outdoors, they tend to have areas of over and under exposure. With a little click and drag action, though, you can make the necessary adjustments and turn a good photo in a great one. When you adjust the brightness and contrast of an entire photo, however, particularly dark areas can become solid black. To avoid this problem, all you have to do is adjust the brightness and contrast in sections by selecting the area with the lasso tool.
Levels are somewhat similar to the brightness and contrast sliders. The difference, however, is that instead of altering the image, you actually pull light or shadow into inputs and outputs. Levels are a great way to add dynamic contrast to a picture while eliminating gray or dull areas. It is probably the most popular technique among experts.
The curve tool. Some professionals have called this the most powerful tool in Photoshop. It allows you to adjust brightness and contrast, richness, and dynamic quality with just a few clicks. There are two ways you can use this tool.
• Graph. If you use the graph, you will have to point points on a grid and pull.
• The eye droppers. The more common method, the eye droppers make adjusting your photo a simple matter of clicking your mouse. It is really easy because Photoshop does all the work for you. All you need to do is select the light eye dropper and click on the lightest area of the picture. Then, select the dark eye dropper and click on the darkest area. Once you are done, you hit ok in the dialogue box and let Photoshop do its thing.
