Nintendo Wii U finally something to rival Microsoft the specs say yes
As a gamer specifications are a very important part of any decision to purchase a gaming console and the difference between the original and new Wii U is substantial. The new Nintendo Wii U console that is being launched in late 2012 certainly has some impressive ones. With so much competition in the gaming market, any company has to be offering over and above it's competitors.

The console comes with an IMB multi-core microprocessor with Power Architecture technology. The GPU is AMD Radeon HD and has been specially designed with this console in mind.

There are two storage options. The console gets flash memory. It can be expanded via SD cards and external USB devices. The optical disc drive has standard slot loading design. It works with 12-centimeter Wii discs and with 12-centimeter high-density ones that are compatible.

The Wii U specs continue with the peripheral ports. The console comes with SD card slot. It is compatible with SDHC cards. There are two front and two rear USB 2.0 ports. There is an HDMI 1.4 out port in addition to one for Sensor Bar and for AV Multi Out.

The controller has a 3-axis gyroscope and a 3-axis accelerometer. The device features a microphone and speakers, camera integrated into the front panel and an IR Sensor strip. It comes with two round pads on the right and on the left side and a D pad. You get standard Start, Home, Select and Power buttons. There are also various control buttons - A, B, X and Y face ones, L and R bumper ones and ZL and ZR trigger ones. There is a synchronization button. You will enjoy a rumble feature. There is a stylus included in the package as well.

The new and perhaps most exciting of all Wii U specs of the controller is the 6.2-inch resistive touch screen. It has FWVGA resolution of 854x480 pixels. The touch screen allows you to enjoy an enhanced gaming experience as it gives you a second window or viewpoint of the game. In addition to the touch screen, the controller has Bluetooth and NFC capabilities.

The console supports the following video formats: 1080p, 1080i, 720p, 480p and 480i. The AV Multi Out port supports composite video. Via the HDMI 1.4 out port, you will be able to view 3D images. Through the same port, you can enjoy PCM linear output.

These are the main specifications announced so far by Nintendo and no doubt more will be released in the following months when the final touches have been put in place.  Impressive as this system sounds though it will be interesting to see the feedback once the product is launched.

According to Nintendo this new console will be backwards compatible with the original so your already purchased wii accessories and games should still work.  There is certainly a lot of excitement around Nintendos newest foray into the gaming market and if it lives up to the hype then gaming will have been taken to the next level.
