Letterpress Wedding Invitations The Invitation Solution
Letterpress Wedding Invitations The Invitation Solution
Letterpress wedding invitations are simply the most beautiful letterpress stationery available today. A quality letterpress printer will offer thick papers which afford an amazing depth and feel to your stationery that is just not found in any other medium. Eco friendly solutions are also available with 100% cotton papers and low VOC inks or even vegetable based inks. What you must remember is that the invitation or the save the date card will be the first item that your guest will receive from you, so it should look nice and set the tone for the wedding invitation or the entire wedding ceremony.

There are so many options when it comes to designs for invitations today. They are almost endless. What I recommend is either letterpress or engraving for your invitations. These are the most elegant and the oldest forms of printing out there. They really provide an such a glamorous and detailed effect that will make your invitation stand out among others. Either way you decide to go, cost will be about the same for each of these medium. There are many pricing options available as well.

If you are familiar with seashells then you can relate to engraving. Basically, the paper is placed inside the shell and the shell is pressed tightly, compressing the paper and ink and raising the text. This gives a unusual feel to the paper and a distinguished look. You also can see the mark on the back of the paper from this technique so don't be surprised when you see the indentation. Traditional wording and wedding invitation etiquette should be used.

Letterpress invitations are one the cleanest and most precise ones out there. As more people share a growing concern for the environment and want to do their part to ensure they are reducing their carbon footprint, more people are turning toward using letterpress wedding invitations. Earlier letterpress was done with handset movable type that is inked and then pressed into the paper. Today more boutique letterpress companies use photopolymer plates and aluminum bases for letterpress jobs instead of movable type. Since the paper is thick cotton, these invitations have a very distinct handmade feel with additional textured elements because of the depth of the printing.

Both the letterpress invitations and the engraved ones are very close in price and they both require time for set ups and proper printing. Letterpress can also be more eco friendly depending on the printer and the type of paper and inks that are used. Digital printing and thermography are both significantly less but are much lesser quality when all is said and done.

There are so many choices that it may delay making this important decision about which invitation to use and what designer or company to work with. Just remember that the paper and designer time are the most expensive elements in your invitation. Some of the eco friendly papers are 100% cotton but the are acid free archival quality and will last for generations to come. So be sure not to sacrifice quality in this regard. Look at samples of some of the work you will be purchasing as well to help make your decision. I suggest calling a few companies and get a feel for their letterpress invitation designs via samples they can send. This way you will be sure to make the right decision.
