Breast cancer constitutes approximately 22.9% of all cancer types in women. While it is more commonly found in women, men can also suffer from this disease. The cancer usually originates in the lobules or milk ducts of breast tissue. If caught early, the five year survival rate is an encouraging 98% but, if diagnosis is not made until a later stage, a mere 23% of patients survive five years. As a result, it is very important to detect and treat breast cancer before it spreads to surrounding tissues. To help women fight, and win, the battle, Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM) was founded.

The concept is simple. It is important to inform the public about this disease so that women will detect a problem while it can still be treated. Around the word, money for valuable research is being raised through destination bike rides, races, and two day long walks. Unfortunately, researchers have yet to develop a cure. To start seeing results, any attempts to find a cure must be supported by more money, greater public awareness, and more scientists. In other words, fundraisers need to start using a more interactive approach. By raising funds with a Spin a Wheel campaign, an organization can offer financial support to community members and their families while they battle breast cancer.

To get started on your spin a wheel campaign, you need only two things. The first is, of course, a prize wheel. They come in a variety of sizes, are fully customizable, and are well-known for their ability to inject fun and interactivity into even the dullest fundraising event. You can even use interchangeable clickers on a prize wheel to select between a louder clicker for outdoor use or a softer clicker for indoor use. The second thing, unfortunately, can be a little tougher to get a hold of. You cannot find it in stores and, even if your friend has it, there is no way to borrow it. It is in your heart and it is often really hard to unlock it. It is compassion and it is one of the few things that separate humans from the animals.

The Archbishop of the Church of Ireland from 1831, Richard Whatley, said, "A man is called selfish not for pursuing his own good, but for neglecting his neighborhood." In this fast-paced world, most people are so caught up in their own struggles that they find it hard to empathize with someone suffering from cancer. For this reason, potential donors need to be informed about the crisis so many families are facing and encouraged to give all they can to support the cause. With your spin a wheel fundraising event, you will be able to grab the attention of potential donors, engage them in an activity that they find rewarding, and inform them of your fundraising efforts. Tell them exactly what moved you, personally, to get involved in the fundraising efforts. Above all, tell them what they can do to help. Share with them the fact that just one dollar given to a cancer patient can make the difference between winning the battle against cancer or spending their last days worrying about life's demands.
