Increase Your Levels In Photoshop
Increase Your Levels In Photoshop
There are a couple of reasons why Photoshop is regarded as the best photo editing software on the market. First and foremost, anyone can learn how to Photoshop. If you are willing to put in the time to learn this exciting program, you can find tons of great resources online that will help you along the way. A quick search on Google will reveal blogs, articles, video tutorials, and even entire websites dedicated to teaching people how to Photoshop. This is probably one of the most powerful pieces of software you will ever use.

There are three great tricks that are often used to digitally edit and improve a photo. Whether you are improving the quality of recent vacation pictures or retouching an old family photo, these techniques are incredibly simple and effective.

Brightness/Contrast adjustments. When photos are taken outdoors, they tend to have areas of over and under exposure. This is not a problem in Photoshop. A few clicks of the mouse and you can turn a decent photo into a great one. When you adjust the brightness and contrast of an entire photo, however, particularly dark areas can become solid black. To avoid this problem, select the area that you would like to adjust before using the contrast and brightness sliders.

Levels. These are actually quite similar to the brightness/contrast sliders but, instead of altering the image directly, light or shadow in pulled into outputs and inputs. This is probably the most common type of adjustment and is great for getting rid of grey or dull areas and really just adding dynamic contrast.

The curve tool is one of the most powerful tools in Photoshop. All it takes is a click or two to adjust brightness and contrast, dynamic quality, and image richness with this tool. Depending on which you find more convenient, there are two ways to use this tool.

Graph it. When you use the graph, you simply put points on a graph and pull to adjust your image.

Eye droppers. With this method, it takes only moments to adjust your photo. It is really easy because Photoshop does all the work for you. All you need to do is select the light eye dropper and click on the lightest area of the picture. Then, select the dark eye dropper and click on the darkest area. Once you are done, you hit ok in the dialogue box and let Photoshop do its thing.

If you are interested in learning how to Photoshop but are not sure where to turn, there are quite a few resources online.
