Important Reminders for Winter Driving
Keywords
auto mechanic

During winter season, driving is especially dangerous because the roads turn slippery which makes maneuvering your car especially challenging. The snow can also hinder your visibility which makes driving even more difficult.  Just to be safe, you should avoid winter driving as much as possible; however, if you absolutely need to drive, then you should be attentive and be especially careful in order to avoid car accidents that can result to fatal injuries. Here are important reminders that you should keep in mind for winter driving:

1.       Make sure that you have your car checked by a reliable auto mechanic to make sure that your vehicle is in top condition for winter driving. Have your brakes, batteries, lights and ignition system checked. Make sure that your tires are in good condition as well. Have your mechanic install snow tires if necessary.

2.       When on the road, drive at reduced speed and always keep a safe distance away from the car in front of you. Since roads are very slippery, decelerating your vehicle can be more difficult which is why you need to slow down to avoid losing control of your car. A lot of times, in winter driving, even when you step on the brakes, your car will not automatically slow down and stop which only makes collision more possible.  So just to be safe, drive slower and don't get too near the vehicle in front of you to avoid collision.

3.       If your car starts to skid, don't panic and slam on the brakes. This would only make you lose what little control you have on your vehicle. Instead, you should keep calm and try to regain control of your steering wheel. When you are sure that you can already maneuver your car, then start applying the brakes very gently.
