How to Dry Out Your Foggy Headlights

Are your headlights always collecting water and moisture? A certain amount of moisture is actually normal for your car headlights. It happens when the outside temperature is cooler than the temperature inside which is pretty often because the lamps makes it warm. These small amounts of moisture will evaporate the next morning when the sun equalizes the inside and outside temperature. But when you have water pooling inside your headlights, then you'll need to remove the housing and dry it out.

Headlights are supposed to allow these droplets to evaporate properly, but if it doesn't; then you can have water in your headlights that's annoying and could possibly cause damage to your car. If you have more than a spoonful of water in there, you will need to remove the housing and allow it to dry out. If the build-up of moisture happens all the time, you may have to have the sealing and venting of your headlights checked by an auto repair specialist.

For drying out your headlights, remove the housing and pour out the excess water. Allow it to dry out then pour in a few ounces of rubbing alcohol, let it slosh around, and then pour it out. You can repeat this process one more time then leave the housing out to dry in an area where there's some air movement. While you have the housing out, you can also check the vents for any debris or dirt. Once it's dry, reinstall the housing and you'll have dry, moisture free headlights on your car.
