One strategy is to keep a small light on board - keep it hidden from the fish to avoid spooking them - but you want to emit enough light so you can see what you are doing to change out tackle.

The other strategy I like to use for catching crappie at night is to allow the light to shine into the water, attracting small bugs and water organisms that will attract small bait fish. Try both methods and use which ever method that works best for you. Now please read on for some quick tips to catch crappie in the night.

How To Catch Crappie Using The Power Of Light Fishing.

Light tip#1

If you do not have a submersible fishing light, you can still attract bait fish by attracting insects, Just a note though, submersible lights will attract large concentrations of plankton and small bait fish. Your night fishing light needs to be positioned at about a 30 degree angle or so,to control the light into a small area.

You do not want the light to shine across a large area the more concentrated the area is, the more the illumination will attract small fish and insects. Fish around the edges of the light source to catch crappie at night.

Light tip#2

You can catch crappie at night without underwater lights but I highly recommend you use a reliable underwater fishing light to fish for crappie at night. If you do purchase a underwater crappie lights you will need to rig it so it is only two or three inches below the water.

This way you will have the light far enough from the crappie so it won't scare them away. The crappie will be attracted to the area of lower intensity light because that is where the small fish and organisms will be located.

Light tip#3

Crappie don't like bright lights shined on them anymore then you do. The crappie will suspend just below the light beam where the light is much dimmer. You will want to set your night fishing for crappie rigs so they are set up to fish below the lights illumination, this is where the crappie will be attracted too.

Well that wraps up our article today. Some key points to remember when you want to how to catch crappie, are to fish below the bright beam of your underwater fishing light, or just outside the beam of your surface water light. Also make sure your surface water light is tilted at about a 30 degree angle.
