Giving Your Hair Extensions the Right Care

Giving Your Hair Extensions the Right Care
Making the decision to choose between synthetic and natural hair extensions is the first step in adding long luxurious length to your hair. While you might step out of your hairdresser's looking like a million dollars, if you do not learn to take care of them, your gorgeous long locks are not going to stay looking that way for very long. If you have gone all out and purchased real hair extensions, the first thing you will notice is that they look and feel just like your own hair.

With this in mind, you can take care of them in much the same manner as your own hair, once they are put in properly by a professional hair salon in Dallas. However, despite the fact that you can wash your extensions using the same shampoos and conditioners you normally use, you must do so with care. You should not wash them to frequently and always wash from the roots of your hair at the scalp to the tips of your extensions. At the same time you need to do so with your head tilted back, this is perhaps the gentlest way to wash your hair and significantly reduces the risk of damaging your hair extensions.

Now that you realize you can wash your hair extensions in much the same way as you do your own hair, using decent quality shampoos and conditioners, the next worry is how to get all of this long hair dry. You can use a hair dryer but, you need to use a towel to soak up as much of the water in your hair and then using a hair dryer and holding it about 8-10 inches away from your hair, slowly brush your hair starting at the outer ends and working your way to your scalp. Make sure that you do not let the hair dryer get too close to the point where your hair extensions are attached.

As for styling your hair, you need to continue keeping your hair brushed at all times. You can still pull your brush through your new extensions, but you will need to be far more carefully. You do need to brush your new long hair before you turn in for the night and tie it up so that you do not wake up with a tangled mess that can be very hard to brush out in the morning. Other than this you can continue to use the styling tools you are used to using to create curls etc.

If you decide the time has come for you to color your hair, you should not attempt to do this yourself as it can lead to uneven coloring. Go to your favorite hairdresser and let them take care of it for you, this way you can count on your hair including your new hair extensions to look fantastic in their new color. With proper care and maintenance your extension will provide you with long sexy locks for a long time to come or at least until your hair grows out or you grow tired of them.
