Fix old photos with Photoshop
Fix old photos with Photoshop
There are several reasons why Photoshop is the premier photo editing software. First of all, it is not hard to learn how to Photoshop. If you do not feel you can learn how to Photoshop through hands-on experience, do not worry. There are plenty of resources online that will help you get started. You can easily find blogs, articles, video tutorials, and websites that will give you a great head start toward being able to edit like a pro. Why not give it a try? This is probably one of the most powerful pieces of software you will ever use.

There are three well-known tricks that you can use to improve the quality of a photo. These techniques can be used effectively whether you are trying to retouch a worn family photo or freshly printed vacation pictures.

Brightness and contrast sliders. Regardless of your skill as a photographer, natural light has a tendency to cause over or under exposure. This problem can be quickly and easily remedied in Photoshop. All it takes is a little click and drag action. You have to be careful with this tool, though. If you adjust the whole picture's brightness and contrast, you may find that there are areas that are heavily shaded that were not a problem before. If this becomes a problem, simply select the areas with the lasso tool and adjust the brightness and contrast for that particular area.

Levels. These can be used to pull light and shadow into inputs and outputs. Levels are a great way to add dynamic contrast to a picture while eliminating gray or dull areas. It is probably the most popular technique among experts.

The curve tool. Some professionals have called this the most powerful tool in Photoshop. With it, you can adjust brightness and contrast, dynamic quality, and richness with the click of a mouse. There are two ways you can use this tool.

You can graph it. If you use the graph, you will have to point points on a grid and pull.

The eye droppers. The more common method, the eye droppers make adjusting your photo a simple matter of clicking your mouse. It is really easy because Photoshop does all the work for you. All you need to do is select the light eye dropper and click on the lightest area of the picture. Then, select the dark eye dropper and click on the darkest area. Once you are done, you hit ok in the dialogue box and let Photoshop do its thing.
