One Key note before you go out to catch crappie in the night: Make sure you have an auxiliary battery if you are fishing from a boat, You should also have a battery if you are fishing for crappie from the bank.

There's nothing worse at night if you can't start your engine. Or if you battery goes dead to for your fishing lights. There's no marina to call for a tow late at night, and there is no place to go to get another car or motor cycle battery.

Second and a close second, is having some quality night fishing lights if your night fishing for crappie. Your light fishing equipment should include above water lighting and submersible fishing lights. When you fish for crappie at night, pay attention to how your using your lights.

The majority of night crappie fisherman have some type of strategy they use for placement of their night fishing lights. One strategy is to keep a small light on board - keep it hidden from the fish to avoid spooking them - but you want to emit enough light so you can see what you are doing to change out tackle.

The other strategy I like to use for catching crappie at night is to allow the light to shine into the water, attracting small bugs and water organisms that will attract small bait fish. Try both methods and use which ever method that works best for you. Now please read on for some quick tips to catch crappie in the night.

How To Catch Crappie At Night Using The Power Of Light Fishing.

Light tip#1
If you do not have a submersible fishing light, you can still attract bait fish by attracting insects, Just a note though, submersible lights will attract large concentrations of plankton and small bait fish. Your night fishing light needs to be positioned at about a 30 degree angle or so,to control the light into a small area.

You do not want the light to shine across a large area the more concentrated the area is, the more the illumination will attract small fish and insects. Fish around the edges of the light source to catch crappie at night.

Light tip#2

There is definitely a benefit to using a underwater fishing light when you go night fishing for crappie. If you are using a submersible light, you'll want to submerge your light so it is only two or three inches under the water.

You don't want the light to be too close to the crappie you do not want to spook them away from you. They will be attracted to the deeper areas where the light is a little bit lower - they will eat small fish and organisms that have been attracted to the low light areas.

Light tip#3

Crappie don't like to be blinded by light anymore then you do. They won't come to close to the bright part of your underwater fishing light. The key is to fish below the light- that is where you will catch crappie.Adjust your night crappie fishing rig depths s so they are below the strong light beam too.

Well that wraps up our article today. Some key points to remember when you want to catch crappie at night, are to fish below the bright beam of your underwater fishing light, or just outside the beam of your surface water light. Also make sure your surface water light is tilted at about a 30 degree angle.
