Building Relationships With Prize Wheel
Team building activities have been known to increase productivity, improve morale, and foster healthy relationships among coworkers that can improve the overall health of the company. The task of finding the perfect team building program, then, should be a top priority for any successful business. There are a host of retreats that will provide your employees with room and board while putting them through a series of exercises designed to build trust and establish rapport between coworkers. The problem with these retreats is that they are not cost-effective. Bringing coworkers to understand each other is not the only goal of team building exercises. It also helps create an environment of mutual respect, improves communication, and boosts productivity.

If you do not have thousands of dollars to spend on a retreat, a prize wheel might be a great alternative. Prize wheels are well-known for their ability to generate an atmosphere of fun and excitement. They have been proven to increase productivity at company meetings, attract attention at trade shows, and even boost morale at company parties. What many do not realize, though, is that these carnival games are the perfect choice for team building exercises, too. Once the team activities are selected and placed on the prize wheel, you can hold an all-day employee "fun" event.

Outdoor Activity Team Building Exercise

Outdoor team building exercises can be the most fun. If you have a large parking lot, bring your custom prize wheel and all of the employees outside. Gather the employees into teams. Then, hand out challenges that could only be accomplished if everyone on the team cooperates with each other. A scavenger hunt would be a great example. The team to find everything on the list first gets to spin the wheel. Make sure you offer great prizes. A cash bonus or a laptop computer can be a powerful motivator. With a free template, it is really easy to customize a prize wheel. You can easily design custom prize cards that can be inserted into the prize wheel. Employees can then select what the next team building exercise will be by spinning the wheel. Then simply replace the activity cards with prize cards. The first team to accomplish its goal can then spin the wheel to win a prize.

Indoor Team Building Activity

To teach employees the importance of clear communication, try a team building activity called "back to back drawing." Organize employees into pairs and instruct them to sit back to back. One partner should be given a picture with outlines and geometric shapes. The other should be handed a pencil and some paper. The one with the picture should then give verbal instructions on how to draw the picture. The partner drawing the picture cannot see the picture being described. The team with the best drawing can then spin the wheel and win a prize. Even better, use your prize wheel to illustrate the importance of communication in the workplace by starting a group discussion. A few discussion ideas are as follows:

  • Was it difficult to complete this activity? Why?
  • Did you feel frustrated when describing the picture? What caused you to feel this way?
  • What were you feeling when you tried to draw the picture based on your partner's description? What made you feel this way?
  • How does this activity apply to communicating with others?
  • What steps could you take to be sure that others do not feel this way when they are talking to you?
